I’m Solomon Skolnick, known professionally as “Professor Home Loan.” Since 2006, I’ve helped homebuyers and homeowners navigate residential financing with a focus on education, clarity, and sustainable homeownership.

Before entering the mortgage industry, I worked as a book-publishing executive with Random House and Simon & Schuster. That experience shaped how I work today: I take complicated subjects and make them easier to understand. My colleagues gave me the nickname “Professor Home Loan,” and I adopted it because it reflects my approach. I educate first, explain your options clearly, and help you make decisions that fit your lifestyle and financial plan.

I’m the author of Home Financing Made Simple: The 12 Steps to Sustainable Home Ownership. My framework, The Keys to Sustainable Homeownership™, goes beyond getting approved. I want you to understand how your loan works and feel prepared for homeownership long after closing.

I especially enjoy working with first-time and move-up buyers, self-employed borrowers, people financing construction or renovation projects, and realtor partners. I also value helping people navigate housing decisions during a divorce, when clear information and a thoughtful approach can make a difficult transition easier.

Working together starts with a conversation about your goals, where you’d like to live, and where you are in the buying process. We’ll discuss your financial picture and the professionals on your team, including your real estate agent and attorney. When appropriate, I can explain our Property To Be Determined (TBD) commitment, which may allow your loan file to be underwritten before you find a property. I’ll stay involved as your file moves through appraisal, underwriting, and closing.
